The Quest, The Prey, is the seventh Main Quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

This quest will have you leaving the safety of Rattay for the wilds of the Talmberg Woods where Lord Capon wishes to go on a hunt.

You’ll need to show up bright and early to the upper castle to meet up with Lord Capon. Make sure you have some food with you for the hunt, and are properly rested.

You’ll find Capon in the courtyard next to his horse and two dogs. You will not be getting your own horse - I hope you like jogging.

After some time on the road, Capon will be in a better mood and get to talking, and you’ll soon engage in a fast travel into the Talmberg Woods.

Fast Traveling is great for going long distances - but it’s not entirely without danger, so be warned.

Once you arrive at camp, it will be near nightfall. Capon will request some wine and bacon from his horses’ saddlebag - don’t dawdle around. You’ll get to ask some questions, and in turn he’ll ask you about Skalitz. It’s worth telling him a bit to keep him happy, and then it’s time to rest before the hunt in the morning.

Sleep in one of the bedrolls until 6AM, and then it’s time to go to work.

Henry’s mouth will get the better of him yet again, and so Lord Capon proposes another challenge: Whoever bags the most hares by noon is the winner.

For this trial by fire, you’ll at least have the opportunity to use a nearby chest to get a Villager’s Ash Bow, some arrows and food, and a Seax sword. If you already have some choice weapons, you can leave whatever won’t slow you down. Remember, you’re hunting animals, not humans - heavy armor and clanking weapons will only slow you down

Be sure you have your vambraces equipped and some light armor, along with your bow and arrows, and clamber into the forest in search of pray. The lower your noise value, the better chance you have to get closer to hares without startling them.

Remember to aim your bow a bit up and to the right of your target. Lucky for you, hares are pretty docile and won’t scamper away until you get close, and also don’t seem to mind arrows that whiz by them if you miss.

Remember after you finally bag a hare, search the body both for meat and get your arrow back, and look along the ground for any arrows in the area if you missed a lot - some may not be broken.

If you’re having trouble tracking prey, try looking for forest clearing where dense shrubs won’t get in the way of lining up a shot.

You may even spot a deer or two, just remember you’re here for hares - even if you take down a stag, you’d have to deal with a lot of meat to haul around.

You might notice meat you get from your kill is “stolen”. That’s because you’re hunting land belonging to a lord, and you have to be authorized to hunt and sell meat from someone’s property. Luckily, Hans doesn’t care, but in the future, be wary of what you kill, and where you try and sell it.

After hunting for a bit, you’ll have to return to camp around noon to show off your spoils. If you bagged enough hares, Sir Hans will actually be impressed, and you can earn 35 Groschens for winning the wager.

Next up, he’ll take to horseback in search of real prey. You won’t be returning to camp, so it’s wise to take everything you need from camp, just don’t over-encumber yourself. Catch up with Lord Capon on his horse and watch him try and take out a boar...with spectacular results.

He’ll take off on horseback to chase it...but you probably don’t have a horse, do you?

You’ll have to find where Sir Hans has gotten to now in wide area of woods. Check your map out, and look for a road leading horizontally through the woods, obscured by patches of trees. Search up on the West end of that path and you’ll stumble upon a camp - where two Cumans have Sir Hans hostage.

Assuming you brought your weapons and armor, equip them as you crouch over to the edge of the camp. You can’t untie Sir Hans until you deal with them, but remember when Bernard taught you: Engage the enemy with a well placed arrow, then switch to your sword. Hopefully you can deal damage to one of the Cumans and finish him off, then focus on the second.

Movement matters here, especially against two opponents, but unlike Skalitz, you are armed and armored enough to take them. Just be patient, wait for openings to parry and riposte attacks, or stab to offset their swings.

If you’ve leveled up in the Swords skill, you should be able to get a weapon skill perk in the form of a combo attack. These attacks are great - especially when riposting, to deal massive damage and almost guarantee a staggering blow. Just don’t get too over eager, and backpedal when waiting for your stamina to return.

Once the Cumans are dead, be sure to take a moment to savor the spoils of war - Hans won’t be going anywhere. Cumans will have some items on them you can sell, and Captain Robard at Talmberg will eventually pay a lot for ears - proof you’ve killed Cumans. There’s also a locked chest in the camp that may hold other riches.

Now you can rescue Sir Hans and get the hell out of there. When you finally arrive back at Rattay, both Lord Radzig and Lord Hanush will be pleased with your work, and Radzig will officially take you into his service, and you’ll get your own horse! Just in time, because there are reports of a familiar hulking bandit on the move.
